Moon was recorded for the Italian label Egea and features both duos and trios. Kenny Wheeler and John Taylor, who also has a high international profile, are joined by guest artist Gabriele Mirabassi, a virtuoso clarinettist who plays on three of the nine pieces.

Taylor’s piano-playing is wonderfully orchestral, Wheeler’s brass sound is as majestic as ever and the trio reaches great heights in Taylor’s lovely piece ‘Ambleside’, Wheeler’s meaty ‘Sly Eyes’ and his ‘Derivation’. Taylor’s title track is a glorious ballad, featuring soaring flugelhorn and an intensely lyrical piano solo.
