Johann Kuhnau, Bach’s Leipzig predecessor, has not been generously accommodated on disc. This programme makes one wonder why. There is plenty of invention in these six pleasingly contrasted sacred vocal pieces, ‘Wie schön leuchtet’, which incorporates Philipp Nicolai’s glorious hymn melody, being the most rewarding of them.
