This is music from the courts of the sons of James I of England. The Ferrabosco and Coprario songs are sung mellifluously but neutrally by Mark Padmore. Careful shading is needed in the viol pieces, but only the items by Lawes, and Gibbons’s Fantasia No. 6, seem truly alive. Anthony Pryer
