Dvorak: Dimitrij

Despite its billing, this well-recorded reissue of the second of Dvo?ák’s three grand operas – its plot a virtual sequel to Boris Godunov – is not quite complete, although it almost presents the opera’s first version intact (Dvo?ák made extensive revisions after the premiere). Gerd Albrecht supplies a mostly convincing reading, but as it is not based on a staged performance, it often lacks real drama. Jan Smaczny
