Geist, Dedekind etc

Christmas can be cash-in time for opportunistic companies, so it’s gratifying to see the Berlin Classics label producing a CD such as In Nativitate Domini, where fresh and original programming combines with high quality period performances. The repertoire is 17th century, much of it by virtually unknown composers. Many of the pieces are for two sopranos (the excellent Emma Kirkby and Susanne Rydén), with occasional instrumental works (including a fine Biber Sonata) providing sorbet-like punctuation. A joyful recording.
