Tippett: The Knot Garden; A Child of Our Time

As a fable of psychological healing, The Knot Garden, Tippett’s third opera, is perhaps too elliptical and over-determined, but it contains some of the composer’s most powerful music: Tippett melds his eclectic influences into a taut and sometimes lyrically rapt score. Davis elicits a tight and thrilling performance. The account of A Child of Our Time is brisk and unsentimental, with a strong team of soloists. William Humphreys-Jones
