Back in 1992, Tiziana Fabbricini was being hailed as the Violetta of Riccardo Muti’s dreams, and just about everyone else’s, little knowing that a certain Angela Gheorghiu was poised to take the palm as La Traviata – and the tenor on this live La Scala recording, too, a convincingly youthful Alagna. Fabbricini certainly looked the part on the video released at the same time, but vocal cracks in the armoury are already apparent. David Nice
