D'indy- Magnard

Ansermet is, of course, closely associated with French repertoire, the disc of substantial symphonic works by D'Indy and Magnard is especially rewarding. He was almost alone in championing the latter, and this live performance of Magnard’s Third Symphony comes from 1968, just before taking it into the studio for his last sessions with the OSR.

A few rough edges do not detract from this searing account, while it is a delight to encounter Robert Casadesus as soloist in an engaging traversal of D’Indy’s rarely heard Cévenole Symphony. Christopher Dingle
