In this debut recording from the Apollo Chamber Orchestra the live performances from St John’s Smith Square benefit from marvellous sound. The playing, particularly the woodwind, is consistently fine, with balances appropriately placed. Both performances are creditable, if occasionally wanting in atmosphere and tenderness. The celebrated vivace opening of the Italian seems a shade careful, but the finale is brilliantly articulated. Terry Barfoot
