Messiaen: Des canyons aux étoiles…

Inspired by the canyons of Utah, Des canyons aux étoiles... celebrates the presence of God in nature. The immense proportions of the piece and its tendency to overwhelm seem to defy the modest size of the orchestra. This performance (also recorded live) is brimming with vitality – Hans Dullaert in particular deserves praise for a magnificent account of the solo horn movement, ‘Appel interstellaire’. Documentation is excellent for both sets: pity there are no couplings. Christopher Dingle
