Miaskovsky: Sinfonietta No. 1; Sinfonietta No. 2; Two Pieces for String Orchestra, Op. 46

Miaskovsky’s brooding lyricism is heard to its best advantage in the First Sinfonietta, a strongly appealing work from the late Twenties which concludes with an exhilarating Presto. Equally captivating is the nostalgic and almost Prokofievian Waltz from the Two Pieces for String Orchestra, a reworking of the middle movements of the composer’s 19th Symphony. The Kremlin Chamber Orchestra under their inspirational conductor Misha Rachlevsky deliver outstanding performances which supersede all currently available versions of this unjustly neglected music.
