Raff: Symphony No. 5 (Lenore)

Although the front cover credits the conductor as Gerd Albrecht, Matthias Bamert’s the man, and he makes a good job of it, helping us understand how this long-forgotten Romantic symphony could once have been a popular hit, and suggesting that it might merit the occasional revival. Sound is a bit swampy, but bearable. Stephen Johnson
