Wetz: Symphony No. 3 in B flat

Described somewhat extravagantly in the booklet notes as the ‘last great German symphony’, Richard Wetz’s Third ploughs a defiantly neo-Brucknerian furrow in protest against the rampant modernism of the Twenties. A lengthy score, though with some undoubtedly eloquent moments, it is delivered in this 1981 recording with sufficient conviction to offset some moments of rough ensemble. Erik Levi
