This is a generous reissue of recordings, both strong and weak. On CD1 the strong item is Munrow’s perky account of the dances from Praetorius’s Terpsichore (1612), with the Ricercar-Ensemble of Zürich covering the same sort of repertoire with a cruder sound and unstable tuning in the wind instruments.

CD2 has selections from the highly entertaining and musical Madrigal History Tour by the King’s Singers. But why their version of Janequin’s La guerre (from the same original disc) should be excluded in favour of the off-key warble through this piece by the Roger Blanchard Ensemble is hard to understand.
