Anthony Collins was as masterly an interpreter of Delius as Beecham, and these nicely refurbished reissues are real treasures. Collins’s readings of the summer nature pieces are full of colour and atmosphere and are almost unbearably beautiful. His ‘Walk to the Paradise Garden’ is sensitive and full of Romantic yearning. His Paris, scored for large orchestra, is vibrant and hedonistic but tinged with that special, tender regret Delius reserved for things past and irretrievable. Ian Lace
