Dvorak: Cello Concerto in B minor, Op. 104; Symphony No. 9 in E minor, Op. 95 (From the New World)

Dorati’s New World has a greater sense of urgency than most, and his fast speeds really bring the Dutch players to life. The cor anglais solo is truly memorable, and the 1959 sound impressively detailed. As one would expect from Schiff, his first recording of the Concerto is an intelligent and big-hearted reading, and Colin Davis provides expert support. An obvious but generous coupling.
