This 1959 Westminster recording has been superbly digitally refurbished to produce a sound-stage with wide perspectives and awesome dynamics that surpasses the sound of many present-day CDs. Boult’s reading of The Planets with the crack Viennese players is powerful and compelling from beginning to end, with subtle little beauties constantly revealed. This version, for me, now joins those at the top of a crowded field. With RVW’s Tallis Fantasia resounding like choirs of angels, this is an outstanding bargain. Ian Lace
