This generous selection of Mozart’s church music includes his two unfinished choral masterworks, the ‘Great’ Mass in C minor and the Requiem. Unfortunately, these performances under the aegis of Colin Davis are disappointing. The rich splendour of the C minor Mass eludes him and his Requiem too falls short on both gravity and grandeur. The rather thin recorded sound doesn’t help. For a very good Requiem, at a budget price, I’d recommend Richard Hickox’s version on Virgin Virgo. Graham Lock
