Music making of this quality is rare. Grumiaux and Davis are particularly associated with Mozart’s music, but these discs contain exceptional performances. The A major Concerto, a reissue of a 1961 recording, with its immaculate phrasing, warmth and beauty of tone re-confirms Grumiaux as one of the greatest violinists of our time. The London Symphony Orchestra sounds full-blooded, but there is marvellous horn and oboe playing, and fine articulation in the strings. Annette Morreau
