Rimsky-Korsakov: Capriccio espagnol; Sadko; May Night Overture; A Russian Easter Festival Overture

This album will probably be chosen for its programme appeal – Sadko and May Night are not too well represented in the catalogue. The sound is first class. Unfortunately the performances don’t always match. Russian Easter Festival has fire and excitement enough but the Capriccio espagnol sags at times and does not have the charm and vitality of the Dorati Mercury recording, for instance. Short measure too. Ian Lace.
