Ian Partridge is the quintessential English lyric tenor – sweet, tasteful but sexless. Recorded here 20 years ago, he sounds in good voice and sings these songs nicely, though Jennifer plays like an accompanist rather than an equal partner. Consequently, many expressive points in the important piano parts go for nothing. Ian could also often be more energetic and varied, but if you like understatement and a budget price, this will do.
