Stravinsky: Symphony in C; Symphony in Three Movements; Symphonies of Wind Instruments; Scherzo fantastique

Energetic, well-recorded readings of the two symphonies with the Suisse Romande Orchestra. Their re-release at mid-price, even with a less inspired account of the original version of the Symphonies of Wind Instruments, is welcome; Dutoit’s Montreal band also offers a glittering Scherzo fantastique. But bear in mind Ashkenazy’s largely excellent accounts of the first three works, recently issued by the same company – with the 1947 version of the Symphonies and almost identical booklet notes.
