Tchaikovsky: Symphony No. 4 in F minor; Romeo and Juliet Fantasy Overture

Telarc’s earliest digital masters caused a sensation when they appeared on LP in the late Seventies. Among them was this first ever digitally recorded Tchaikovsky Fourth, from Lorin Maazel and the Cleveland Orchestra. This spectacular performance was later included among the company’s first CD issues, and enjoyed great success as a hi-fi demonstration disc, although some collectors were understandably reluctant to pay a premium price for barely 42 minutes of music! Now available again as a mid-price reissue, and with the addition of Romeo and Juliet, it’s an unbeatable bargain offering.
