Wood Magic

The great asset of the major record companies is their back catalogue, but many of the smaller players have now been going long enough to have distinguished older recordings of their own. It’s good to see the Medici Quartet’s vibrant and flexible performances of ELGAR’s String Quartet and Piano Quintet on Meridian at a more competitive price. In the Eighties, these works were a central part of the ensemble’s repertoire: the first movement of the Quartet has a special vigour, and pianist John Bingham is a natural partner in the Quintet.
