Affel Bocoum, a Toure protégé, sounds just as securely rooted. Recorded by World Circuit on the same visit, he sticks to acoustic instruments and a laid-back pace.
The voice is warmer, quite intimate, but it has an edge which the relentless pulse and chorused refrains reinforce. It took Toure to go out to the world; now the world is ready to come to Bocoum and the result is all the more powerful for standing its ground.
