Sunny Mallorca is home to another great voice. Concha buika’s fourth internationally released album teams her up with renowned Cuban jazz pianist Chucho Valdés and continues her fruitful association with producer/guitarist Javier Limón. El Último Trago revisits songs made famous by Mexico’s favourite diva, Chavela Vargas, mostly on slow, romantic bolero and cha-cha-cha. Valdés is a stylish accompanist, whose fluid runs fall just short of being over-florid, and Buika’s lovely, husky voice is at its best when she shows restraint, as on the opening danzón Soledad.
