The box of Krishna Lila looks very traditional, though the main picture is camped-up, and much of the contents are traditional – shared between south and north Indian sources – with very light production reserved for the beginning and end of the first few tracks.

Then there is a switch to almost total studio sounds for one item, before a couple of pieces attempt a more confident synthesis of old and new. Generally, the contemporary elements are treated as an overlay rather than integrated into the playing, which goes its own enjoyable way on a variety of solo instruments from santoor to sarod.
