A Passion of Tango

Carlos Gardel’s singing, equally lithe, takes vocal tango back to its roots. The violins may swoon, but he smoulders. At a time when pop and operatic voices were not so far apart, he performed right across the popular Latin American genres, phrasing wonderfully and projecting his words with grace.

The accompaniments go with a spring, instead of the pronounced thump that ‘New Tango’ was to develop.
