A launchpad for exceptional talent

For more than six decades, Young Concert Artists has been helping to shape the future of classical music. Founded in 1961, the New York-based organisation has become one of the industry’s most respected talent incubators, identifying exceptional young musicians and offering them the support, opportunities and industry connections needed to build lasting international careers.
Its alumni roster boasts some of classical music’s most celebrated names. Pianists Emanuel Ax, Lise de la Salle and Jeremy Denk; violinists Pinchas Zukerman, Karen Gomyo and Ray Chen; and soprano Julia Bullock are all among the artists who benefited from YCA’s support early in their careers. More recent success stories include violinist Randall Goosby and 2025 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition winner Aristo Sham.
Inside the Susan Wadsworth International Auditions

The organisation’s reputation has been built not simply on spotting technical brilliance, but on recognising the qualities that distinguish truly memorable artists: individuality, imagination and the ability to communicate musically with audiences.
That search reaches its culmination each year in the Susan Wadsworth International Auditions, named in honour of YCA’s founder. Hundreds of emerging young musicians from around the world apply for the opportunity to join the YCA roster, but only a select few make it through to the final stages.
Through three rounds of auditions, performers are assessed by a distinguished jury of musicians and industry leaders, including pianist Inon Barnatan, conductor Jane Glover, cellist Paul Watkins and San Diego Symphony President and CEO Martha Gilmer. The goal is not only to identify the most impressive players, but to discover artists with the potential to make a meaningful impact on the classical music landscape in the years to come.
For audiences, this makes the Final Auditions particularly compelling viewing. There’s a thrill to hearing musicians at such an inflection point in their development, before the major debuts, international tours and recording contracts that may lie ahead.
Opening doors across the classical world

Winning a place on the YCA roster can be genuinely transformative. Over a comprehensive three-year programme, artists receive support that extends far beyond a single performance opportunity. YCA provides artist management, concert engagements at leading venues, introductions to presenters and industry figures, and YCA-presented debut recitals in both New York City and Washington, DC.
Just as importantly, artists gain access to a network of mentors, collaborators and advocates who can help them navigate the complexities of a professional career. In an increasingly competitive industry, that combination of artistic guidance and practical support can make a profound difference.
The result is a model that has helped launch generations of musicians while enriching the wider classical music community. For audiences, meanwhile, it provides a fascinating glimpse into where the next wave of talent may emerge.
Whether you are a seasoned concertgoer, an avid follower of international competitions or simply curious about the future of classical music, the 2026 Final Auditions promise a day of performances from some of today’s most exciting rising musicians.
