The Catholic cathedral in Westminster is a determinedly unusual building, its Byzantine-style campanile standing out among the surrounding Portland stone of central London. Situated between the Houses of Parliament and Victoria Station, the cathedral is in excellent ecumenical company, with the Anglican Abbey and Methodist Central Hall both within a ten-minute walk. The catholic Diocese of Westminster is England’s most populous and encompasses most of London north of the river, extending as far as Royston in Hertfordshire.

The Choir of Westminster Cathedral is unique in the UK in using boy choristers to sing both the treble and alto parts. The boy altos are joined by two adult male counter-tenors, giving an unusual timbre to the line.
