The 1973 Eastbourne concert on this set was a Parthian shot from jazz’s greatest musician, while the Boston Pops concert throws Ellington’s compositions up on a broader screen. There are also tracks with the 1969 band as well as two parties with Ellington sitting in with Earl Hines at one, and Willie ‘The Lion’ Smith at the other. A wonderful slice of history. SN
