Mi Niña Lola

Mi Niña Lola

Mallorcan-born Concha Buika grew up absorbing jazz, flamenco and coplas (Spanish ballads), which make up the bulk of her third album, Mi Niña Lola.

Her irresistibly smoky, lived-in voice is couched in tastefully sparse, largely acoustic arrangements featuring double bass and guitar, flamenco-style palmas (hand-claps) and piano – her own on the original songs.

She switches from Spanish to uncertain English on the ballad Love, but otherwise it’s hard to fault this impressive album.
