To mark the 50th anniversary of Shostakovich's death, the Brodsky Quartet has recorded a candlelit performance of the composer's final String Quartet No. 15.
'This work lives in a space of its own, different to all that came before it, by Shostakovich or anyone else,' says the Brodsky Quartet. 'A series of slow-moving, meditative movements, it is a statement on both life and death, as the composer neared his end. Turn the lights down low, lie back and immerse yourself in this cosmic experience.'
There is a short spoken introduction followed by a full performance of the work.
