The BBC Proms has launched its annual Inspire Young Composers’ competition.

The competition is in its 15th year and is open to budding composers aged 12 to 18. Winners will not only get their work performed at the Proms this summer but will also get the chance to hear their piece broadcast on Radio 3 and receive a commission for 2014.

This year’s judges include Stuart McRae, Fraser Trainer and Anna Meredith (right) and the deadline for entries is 27 May 2013.

The BBC has also announced a series of Inspire Sessions to encourage young composers. The sessions will take place in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff and Northern Ireland between February and April. They’re free to attend and you can sign up to take part on the BBC website.

For the second year, the BBC will also be running Teacher Inspire Session with the BBC Concert Orchestra in Hertfordshire in March. For more information, email promslearning@bbc.co.uk.
