25 young musicians have reached the category finals of the annual BBC Young Musician contest.
They will now compete against each other for three spots in the final, which will take place on 15 May in the Barbican, London, and will be broadcast on BBC Four and BBC Radio 3. This return to the Barbican marks the first time in 14 years that the BBC Young Musician competition will be held in London.
The three finalists will be accompanied by the BBC Symphony Orchestra, and conducted by Mark Wigglesworth.
Previous category and overall winners of the competition – Alison Balsom, Nicola Benedetti, Benjamin Grosvenor and Stephen Hough, to name a few – have gone on to become international artists. In 2014 Peter Moore, who won the competition in 2008 aged 12, became the youngest ever member of the London Symphony Orchestra at 18.
