Boston Symphony Orchestra appoints first artistic partner

English composer, conductor and pianist Thomas Adès has been appointed artistic partner at the Boston Symphony Orchestra. In this new role Adès role will play with and conduct the BSO throughout the season, as well as composing new works for the orchestra.

Born in London in 1971, Adès attended the Guildhall School of Music and Drama as a pianist before widening his gaze to conducting and composing. He was artistic director of the Aldeburgh Music Festival from 1999-2008, the first to take on the role alone since Benjamin Britten. 

Adès has also been appointed artistic director of the Tanglewood Festival, the BSO’s ‘summer home’ from 2018-19.
