The first ever Plácido Domingo festival will take place in Seville and Malaga this autumn, and will feature performances from musicians including Domingo himself, tenor Vittorio Grigolo and soprano Danielle de Niese.

Domingo is the artistic director of the festival and IMG Artists – an artist management company – is the executive producer of the event, which takes place in Seville and Malaga in Spain from 25 October – 3 November.

On the opening night Domingo will sing the role of the monk Athanaël in Massenet’s Thaïs alongside sopranos Nino Machaidze and Micaëla Oeste. Domingo will then step on to the podium himself to conduct a gala concert on 26 October, with performances from tenor Vittorio Grigolo and guitarist Ángel Romero.

Other highlights of the festival include a performance of Bruch’s Violin Concerto from Pinchas Zukerman, and Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 played by Ivo Pogorelić.

In a statement, Domingo said: ‘I am thrilled that such wonderful and highly accomplished guest artists will join me for my inaugural festival. These will be my first performances in the culturally rich and historically important cities of Seville and Malaga in a number of years, and I am hugely excited at the prospect of returning there, as well as establishing my own festival in my beloved homeland.’
