Violinist Tasmin Little, conductor Edward Gardner and choirmaster Gareth Malone (right) are among those honoured for services to music in the Queen’s birthday honours list this year.
Opera director David McVicar has been knighted, while composer and broadcaster Michael Berkeley and conductor Harry Christophers are each appointed CBE.
Gardner, who is musical director of English National Opera, Malone and Little have all been given OBEs, as have pianist Joanna MacGregor, Andrew Jowett, chief executive of Birmingham Symphony Hall, and Elaine Padmore, former director of opera at the Royal Opera House.
Among those appointed MBE are composers Douglas Coombes and Ernest Tomlinson, as well as Katie Tearle, in recognition of her work as the former head of education at Glyndebourne.
This year saw the reintroduction of the British Empire Medal – an honour to recognise ‘hands-on’ services. Here, Samuel Bothwell, Richard Michael, Colin Nicholson, Elizabeth Roberts and Leonard Trevillion were all recognised for services to music in their local areas.
