Tenor-cum-baritone Plácido Domingo has signed an exclusive recording contract with Sony Classical, the label with which he began recording in the 1960s.

Domingo became internationally famous as one of the ‘three tenors’, along with Luciano Pavarotti and José Carreras. He has appeared in opera houses around the world and even played himself on The Simpsons. He recently began singing lower, baritone roles including the title role in Verdi’s Simon Boccanegra.

In a statement, Domingo said: ‘Sony and its predecessors have played such an important part in much of my career, yet I have not had an exclusive contract with any company in nearly 40 years. Finding a permanent home for my future recordings appeals to me very much.’

No details have been released yet about the repertoire Domingo will be recording for the label.
