As tickets for the BBC Proms 2011 went on sale last weekend, an astonishing 85,921 tickets were snapped up in the first 12 hours, with 376 tickets sold every minute in the first hour of the box office opening. Over 71,000 of the tickets were sold online with the remainder sold either by post, telephone or in person at the Royal Albert Hall box office. The BBC Proms 2011 hopes to break last year’s record attendances, when a total of 313,000 tickets were sold.

Seated tickets for Prom 4 (Brian’s Symphony No. 1, ‘Gothic’), Prom 13 (Verdi’s Requiem), Prom 29 (Mahler’s Symphony No. 2 by Gustavo Dudamel and the Simón Bolivar Symphony Orchestra) and Prom 59 (Hollywood film music) are now sold out; however, 1,400 ‘Promming’ (standing) tickets will be available for £5 on the day of each concert. Tickets for the majority of the other concerts are still available.

All of the 2011 Proms will be broadcast in HD sound on BBC Radio 3 and selected Proms will be aired on TV. For a programme of the BBC Proms 2011 click here and watch out, too, for the July 'Proms Special' issue of BBC Music Magazine, on sale 8 June.
