BBC Radio 3 is to mark Britten's centenary weekend with a residency in Aldeburgh.
Over the weekend of 22-24 November 2013, there will be live performances of Britten's music including his opera Albert Herring, the Spring Symphony and his music for string quartet. Radio 3 presenters Suzy Klein and Tom Service will also host discussions about the composer's life and music.
The Radio 3 residency includes a Centenary Concert at the Snape Maltings Concert Hall, where the BBC Symphony Chorus and Orchestra, conducted by Oliver Knussen, will be playing the Four Sea Interludes and Passacaglia from Peter Grimes as well as the world premiere of a piece specially commissioned from Ryan Wigglesworth.
At 11am on 23 November there'll be a live broadcast of Britten's much-loved masterpiece for children The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra.
The centenary will round off with a live broadcast of Noye’s Fludde from the town of Lowestoft, where Britten was born. Professionals, children and audience members will all participate in the performance.
John Bridcut, writer and filmmaker, has also created a new film about Britten’s creativity in the face of death, called Britten’s Endgame. The film is to be broadcast on BBC Four over the same weekend, as part of the centenary celebrations.
