This summer the Royal Opera House (ROH) are organising what they claim is the biggest ever ‘hum-along’.

Audiences at 21 locations around the UK will be given the chance to join in with the Humming Chorus from Puccini’s Madam Butterfly.

The opera will then be broadcast live from Covent Garden as part of the ROH’s Big Screens series. Massenet’s opera Cinderella will be screened as part of the project, as well as his ballet Manon, performed by The Royal Ballet. Audiences will also be able to watch backstage footage from the productions.

‘These screenings are a highlight of our performing season,' says Deborah Bull, creative director of the Royal Opera House. 'They allow us to reach new audiences across the UK and [they] are a great way in to ballet and opera for newcomers.'

A Twitter trail linked with the production of Cinderella is under way involving interactive puzzles (follow @mynameiscinders).

Manon, Madam Butterfly and Cinderella will be broadcast on 1 June, 4 July and 13 July respectively in cities including Bristol, Derby, Manchester and London. Performances are free to attend and will begin at 7.30pm, 7pm for the hum-along.
