Unfortunately, this Starlight Express Suite must now be considered as second best to the splendid Mackerras recording issued by Argo last year. The main trouble is Cynthia Glover’s cloying renditions. Keen Elgarians will want this release for the King Arthur Suite but it is not top drawer Elgar. Although at full price, the Argo disc offers 75 minutes of music with delightful performances of both Wand of Youth Suites and Dream Children. Ian Lace
