Mendelssohn: Concerto for Two Pianos; Piano Concerto in A minor; String Symphony No. 12

Mendelssohn: Concerto for Two Pianos; Piano Concerto in A minor; String Symphony No. 12

Very early Mendelssohn – the Mendelssohn of before the Octet – can be as captivating as it is Classical; or even Baroque, as in the Twelfth String Symphony. Ogdon and Lucas are admirably alert to every nuance in the double concerto. Ogdon alone in the even earlier A Minor concerto is a delight. The orchestral playing is sometimes rather superficial. Recordings are a trifle fuzzy, and there are a few noisy page-turns.Keith Potterare a trifle fuzzy, and there are a few noisy page-turns.Keith Potter
