Canteloube/Emmanuel

Canteloube/Emmanuel

This is an even more enjoyable disc than the same artists’ first volume of Canteloube’s luscious folksong arrangements. It features many of the better-known songs, including the gorgeous ‘Baïlèro’; Dawn Upshaw sings with all her customary sensitivity and ravishing tone, and Nagano draws refined and colourful playing from his Lyon orchestra. Maurice Emmanuel’s orchestral versions of Burgundy folksongs make an appropriate companion. Stephen Maddock
