This disc may not be Milstein at his very best, but for a man at the age of 82 suffering from a disabled left index finger, this live recording is remarkable. During his 73-year career, Milstein recorded virtually nothing for film and television, and this recital, which turned out to be his last, was specially set up to be filmed by Christopher Nupen. The unaccompanied Bach movements and Beethoven’s Kreutzer (with the impressive Pludermacher) are masterly. Annette Morreau
