Although these mid-18th-century quintets might not be packed with as much inventiveness as an equivalent by Mozart or Haydn, there is enough inspirational instrumental interplay, including delicious suspensions, flirtatious melodic flurries and courtly dance rhythms, for a refined Camerata Köln to convince us of JC Cannabich’s thorough skill at entertaining.
