Dvorak: Piano Trio in B flat, Op. 21; Piano Trio in E minor, Op. 90 (Dumky)

Dvorák’s first and last piano trios make an appealing pairing. The freewheeling ‘Dumky’ is an old favourite and Op. 21 anticipates many of the virtues of the mature Dvorák. The playing here shows eloquent advocacy of his style. If the outer movements of the early trio are a touch rough-hewn, there is rich compensation in the blend of passion and eloquence the players bring to a memorable performance of the ‘Dumky’.
