Louis Glass: String Quartet No. 3; String Quartet No. 4

These two quartets (the third incorrectly listed as No. 2 on the CD cover) are full of lovely music – somewhere in mood between the quartets of Stenhammar and the late chamber works of Elgar – but concise they aren’t, and there’s a lot of repetitive padding. Performances are sympathetic, and the recordings are warm, if a little over-reverberant. Stephen Johnson
