Pettersson: Seven Sonatas for Two Violins; Lamento; Two Elegies; Romanza; Andante espressivo

The Seven Sonatas come from 1951, not long after Pettersson had left the viola section of the Stockholm Philharmonic to study in Paris with René Leibowitz. They are indebted to folk music and to Bartók, and are expertly written if somewhat anonymous. The performances are pretty flawless. Robert Layton
